Bernard Tschumi
(born January 25, 1944 Lausanne, Switzerland) is an architect, writer and educator, commonly associated with deconstructionism. Son of renowned architect Jean Tschumi, born of French parents and Swiss, who works and lives in New York and Paris.
He studied in Paris and at ETH Zurich, where he received his degree in architecture in 1969.
Tschumi has taught at the University of Portsmouth in Portsmouth, United Kingdom, the Architectural Association in London, the Institute of Architecture and Urban Studies in New York, Princeton University, Cooper Union in New York and Columbia University, where was dean of the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation from 1988 to 2003. Tschumi is a permanent U.S. resident.
Tschumi, well known for his radical theories on post-structuralist architecture in the 1960's and 70's, won the commission for the New Acropolis Museum, in a competition. The museum offers a seemingly placid position, focused on the light and the breathtaking scenery of Athens while accurate in the imagination and sophisticated in the way.
